Inseparable
This is “Inseparable”, a contemporary basketry sculpture. The piece started with an idea that was too tricky to sketch - but I was intrigued and had to give it a go. The weaving progress was very slow and I had to take breaks - sometimes months long because it didn’t seem to be growing! And then, almost 2 years and 130+ hours later - it was done and just what I’d imagined!
This sculptural piece is woven completely by hand. I formed the shape as the weaving progressed. It is woven with fine gauge colored copper wire and is signed with my initials “SLS” and the year completed.
I love the slow process of my basketry work – slow building. I wish I could show the process along with the finished piece, because for me it is a significant part of the whole.
